Both critics and admirers alike have usually had one common opinion about President Paul Biya; that the man is unpredictable and on many occasions, he has proven to be so. Usually when Cameroonians suspect or even conclude that their president would go towards a particular direction, he does the very opposite. But yesterday's announcement of the long awaited cabinet reshuffle did not as much surprise keen observers. If it did it was only because speculations about whether Chief Ephraim Inoni will be retained as Prime Minister, Head of Government had virtually been exhausted and the President and his calculations once again made him the political Maradona who succeeds each time to dribble his countrymen.
Clinton Brown, Deputy Section Chief of the Political and Economic Section at the US Embassy in Yaoundé, says Cameroonian ministers carrying bags of money around are criminals at best. He was speaking at a symposium organised by the Centre for Human Rights and Democracy in Africa (CHRDA), a Buea-based NGO. Presenting corruption as a human rights violation, the symposium entitled "Corruption and its Implications on Human Rights" attracted participants from the academy, local government, civil society and the judiciary.
Leaders of some key opposition political parties in Cameroon have successively added their voices to the current debate on foreign reports about President Paul Biya's fortune. They have urged Paul Biya to declare his assets according to article 66 of the 1996 constitution to save himself the trouble of any further victimisation. At a press conference in Yaounde on Monday 29 June 2009, CDU leader, Adamu Ndam Njoya said, the constitution in article 66 was very clear on the issue of declaration of assets by those holding public office but has never been respected. He said Cameroonians would not have had any problem with such a report if the President of the Republic had taken the lead to respect the constitution by declaring his assets.
It came like a surprise to some but certainly well-informed persons knew that the cabinet reshuffle will come immediately after the parliamentary session. Before Biya's announcement of the appointments yesterday Tuesday, 30 June 2009 to replace the Inoni government of December 2004 the press in Cameroon had for about two years now be issuing their own list of members of government.

The First National Vice President of the ruling CPDM, Fon Angwafor has expressed fears that the party will soon be history in Mezam I if President Biya does not order an immediate reorganisation of the Section. In a letter addressed to the Secretary General, Rene Sadi, a copy of which Eden stumbled on, Fon Angwafor complained that Cletus Anye Matoya, the Section's vice President was running party affairs in the area like a private estate.
Louis Bapes Bapes, Minister of Secondary Education has hailed the Cameroon GCE Board for what he described as a good job. "Generally, I can say the GCE Board is doing quite a good job", he remarked. Minister Bapes Bapes made the statement in Buea Tuesday, 30 June at the end of his inspection tour on the second day of the marking exercise, to the Buea marking centres of the 2009 session of the GCE exams. The Secondary Education boss explained the reason for his visit to the marking centres, which, he said, was to encourage the officials of the Board, the markers and all the other stakeholders concerned.
