NEPAD Projects In The Sub Region Under Scrutiny PDF Print E-mail

A number of projects initiated within the Framework of the New Partnership for Africa’s Development, NEPAD in the central African sub region are under evaluation.

Members of the executive bureau for the coordination of NEPAD in the sub region are meeting in Yaounde to examine projects that are in the domain of energy, transport, agriculture, environment and telecommunication.

The President of the Republic, Paul Biya has signed a number of decrees appointing Magistrates and Presidents of High courts.

The decrees were signed on Thursday 8 July 2010 at the end of the Higher Judicial Council meeting at the State House in Yaounde.

The CPDM supporters of Mezam 4 Bafut, in the North West Region, have resolved to sink their differences and work together in the interest of the party and development of Bafut sub division.

They took the resolution during joint section conference of the party in Bafut. The section president, Prince Achirimbi David Suh on the occasion called on President Paul Biya to be the CPDM candidate for the 2011 presidential elections.

The June plenary session which is the second ordinary session for the year 2010 has ended with a number of bills adopted.

The session was consecrated to questions on Government’s communication policy, the penitentiary and the judicial system, transport and electricity as well as access to potable water. Precedence was also given to the dismal performance of the Cameroon national team, the Indomitable Lions during ongoing FIFA world Cup in South Africa.

The President of the Republic recently received in two separate audiences a special envoy from the Libyan guide, Muamar Khaddafi and that of the President of Benin, Boni Yayi.

The Libyan leader’s special envoy, Abdel-Hakim Elmahdi Alshirif, was bearer of Muamar Khaddafi’s invitation to President Paul Biya to attend the Africa-Arab summit in October and the Africa – Europe summit in November. Both summits are scheduled to take place in Libya.

Board members of the Livestock Development Fund for the North Regions have met for the 43rd ordinary session.  The board members scrutinize the execution of the 2009 budget which stood at 375 million francs CFA.

At the end of deliberations board members expressed satisfaction with projects realised. Some of the projects include the construction of feeding houses for cattle, rehabilitation and construction of vaccination centres for livestock and the acquisition of automobiles.

The meeting was presided over by the Minister of Livestock, Fisheries and Animal Industries, Aboubakary Sarki.

A two-day workshop on the implimentation of the Indigenous People Development Plan of the Forestry and Environment Sector Programme has been organised in Kribi, South Region.

Participants are brainstorming on how to implement the programme which is designed to ensure the sustainable management of forest resources while protecting the indigenous populations. The workshop was coordinated by the Secretary General in the Ministry of Social Affairs, Zoua Houli Abraham.

The stakeholders in the decentralization process in Cameroon are taking part in a training course on the management of competences and resources transferred to local councils by the state.
The course which involved representatives from the three northern regions was being organised in Garoua, capital of the North Region.

The training programme was initiated by the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Decentralisation and presided over by the Minister, Marafa Hamidou Yaya.

Prime Minister Head of Government, Philemon Yang, led a delegation of cabinet ministers to the National Assembly for a plenary session.

The session was consecrated to government’s respond to questions pertaining to the protection of peoples and property as well as government’s drive to fight against crime.

Prime Minister Philemon Yang expounded on government’s plan of action, laying emphasis on measures put to place to check crime and ensure the security of all Cameroonians.

The Minister of Scientific Research and Innovation, Madaleine Tchuente, has ended an evaluation tour of the Institute of Agricultural Research for Development, IRAD Fombot in the West Region.

The tour was organised to evaluate research projects financed by the coffee and cocoa sub sector development fund, FODEC and the Ministry. The project which involves research and production of paste resistance seedlings in Fombot focuses on research in developing high yielding seeds of Arabica coffee.

At the end of the tour, Minister Madaleine Tchuente said the sum of FCFA 500 million has been set aside to support youths who will make use of agricultural research results to create enterprises.

 
Red Cross Opens Farm To Assist Refugees PDF Print E-mail

The Cameroon and Spanish Red Cross societies in collaboration with the Spanish Agency for International Development have put in place an agricultural production project. The agricultural project is intended to ensure food security for refugees in the East and Adamawa Regions of Cameroon.

The Spanish Ambassador to Cameroon Anturo Spegelberg de Ortueta and the President of the Cameroon Red Cross, Charles Eteki Mbomoua expressed their satisfaction after visiting some farms in Adinkol in the East Region. The farm is exploited by Refugees who have benefitted from the assistance of the project.
