SDO Chases Illegal Miners |

The Senior Divisional Officer of Mayo Rey has signed an order to expulse illegal miners from the division.
According to the order, the illegal miners have three days to quit Mboukouma which is the place of attraction for the miners. He warned that any person found guilty of the illegal activity shall be brought before the law in force. According to official statistics, about five thousand people mostly immigrants from some African countries earn a living in Rey Bouba from gold digging.

Cholera Outbreak Spreads To North Region |

After the Far North region, the outbreak of cholera has been reported in the North region of Cameroon. Medical sources have indicated that about thirty-one cases have already been reported.
Of the thirty-one, three persons are dead. The Minister of Public Health says the epidemic is under control, there is therefore no great cause for concern. He explained that the North Region is close to the Far North region and there is therefore no surprise that the epidemic spreads. The Minister of Communication on his part briefed the press on a sensitisation campaign currently carried in the affected regions.

The Prime Minister and Head of Government, Philemon Yang has received in audience, the new Central African Regional Director of the United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM), Diana L. Ofwona. She was in Cameroon to update the government on the recent changes within the organisation. Diana L. Ofwona said United Nations Development Fund for Women was merged with three other UN System structures that work on women and gender issues to form “UN Women”. The new structure which was created by a resolution of the UN General Assembly of 2 July 2010 is expected to take off effectively in January 2011.

The Mayor of the Limbe I Council, Daniel Matute Lyonga, has said bad faith, blackmail, witch-hunting and personal interest amongst and between councilors is stifling development in the council area.
Daniel Matute Lyonga was speaking at the Limbe I Council hall last Monday 23 August 2010 during the ordinary session to adopt the Administrative, Management and Stores accounts of the council.

Over 200 CPDM Central Committee delegates from all the ten regions in the country will have to attend a marathon consultation with party hierarchy in Yaounde from today 24 August to 31 August 2010.
The consultations, according to a release from the Secretary General of the party Rene Sardi has been ordered by the Head of State, President Paul Biya, to begin strategising and mobilising militants ahead of the 2011 presidential election preparation. Eden however gathered from reliable party sources that the precipitated consultation with Central Committee delegates comes to replace the long awaited congress of the party that was to officially designate President Paul Biya as their candidate for the 2011 presidential elections.

As the release of the detained former General Manager of Chantier Naval, Zaccheaus Forjindam becomes imminent following report of two of the three officials of the Supreme State Control assigned to investigate into the management of Chantier Naval under the leadership of Forjindam, which report say no management irregularities were found as alleged by the fitst report by Kooh II, observers have been questioning why Forjindam was arrested and detained in the first place.

Limbe Fishermen Worried Over Low Catch |

Fishermen in Limbe have expressed worries over the low catch during this period and have blamed it on the heavy rainfall that occurred this year.
Talking to Eden most of the fishermen at Down Beach said they were surprised that things are getting more difficult as this is usually the month that most of them make good sales but as of now, they are yet to meet their expectations.
Armstrong Ngu, a fisherman and boat owner said though he takes the fishing activity as part time he is actually making good yields from it. He, however, recounted that they are all facing the problem of high tides which disturbs their activity just like the rain disturbs people in daily activities.
