Homosexuals on Wednesday 11 March stormed the Nigerian National Assembly to protest over a bill which seeks to prohibit same sex marriages in Nigeria. The group, comprising young males and females, said they were opposed to the bill because the United Nations charter on Human Rights guaranteed them freedom of association and freedom to sexual orientation, all of which the proposed law will deny them. The protest was countered by a group of religious leaders who were in attendance at a public hearing, organised by the House of Representatives Joint Committee on Human Rights, Women Affairs and Justice.

A man shocked parents recently when he confessed to recruiting school children into homosexuality as part of a programme to promote the practice in Ugandan schools. George Oundo said Funders gave them "much money" and training abroad and that he would target mostly the needy children who had problems of tuition and pocket money and "others who like outings." Oundo warned parents to know their children's friends. Homosexuals, he added, were targeting mostly children "because they are easy to initiate and they like easy things".

Christians the world over believe in the Gospel of Jesus Christ, which amongst other things preaches the unflinching loyalty to the one and almighty God, the search for the truth and above all the love for one another. That all may be one has for so long been a cardinal principle in Christianity. But the various Christian denominations sprouting all over the world are raising questions on Christian unity. As Christians the world over commemorate the Week for Christian Unity ,questions are being asked why a faith that preaches so much unity appears to be so divided amongst itself .With minor differences over doctrine ,Christ Church ,which he built on a rock appears to be breaking into fragments even though still on the rock.

Some of the stories from members of a ministry working in Central Africa could have come straight from the biblical book of Acts. According to Joel News International (www.joelnews.org ), Great Lakes Outreach is a network of passionate people of faith who are reaching out to meet the spiritual and physical needs of the last, the lost and the least in Burundi, Central Africa. Citing Simon Guillebaud and Adri Roos as sources, Joel News says that in Muyinga, a prostitute called Victoria was kidnapped by cannibal witchdoctors who took a bite out of her thigh, but found she ‘tasted bitter’, and so they didn’t eat her. Instead they cursed her and she became dumb.

Why did the church’s prophet get rid of polygamy, was it because of a revelation or was it just to appeal to the laws of man? Due to religious bigotry over the practice of plural marriage, the United States government announced its intent to destroy the Latter-day Saint people. Following a vision showing him that continuing plural marriage endangered the temples and the mission of the Church, not just statehood, President Wilford Woodruff issued the Manifesto in October 1890, announcing an official end to new plural marriages and facilitating an eventual peaceful resolution of the conflict with the United States government.

What Does The Bible Say About Christian Borrowing? |

The Bible is clear that Christians—and in effect, churches—should avoid getting into a position of financial bondage (Proverbs 22:7). However, the key is to know the difference between borrowing and financing. Financing and borrowing are two words frequently used synonymously, but they have different meanings. Borrowing involves pledging ownership of income or assets even before they are earned or acquired, or promising what you don’t yet possess. In contrast to borrowing, Christian financing is consistent with biblical principles. It refers to the management of assets your church already owns or is acquiring.

The debate over homosexuality and religion has been a heated discussion for some time now. The issue of homosexuality has split churches like the Episcopal Church while at the same time uniting others such as the Metropolitan Community Church, with a predominantly gay membership. Does God condemn gays? Is homosexuality a sin? Or is being gay truly “insidious” in the eyes of God, as the late Pope John Paul II described it in his book “Memory and Identity”?

Hundreds of girls between seven and 17 are seeking refuge in church compounds in western Kenya to avoid the ritual removal of their clitorises, a practice that remains common in African traditional societies including Cameroon despite its illegality. “Local authorities must ensure that these girls are not ostracised by the community and that their education is not disrupted,” Andrew Timpson, a senior protection officer for the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in Kenya, told IRIN on 16 December.
