Alleged Illicit Love Affair: Military Officer Murders Police Inspector Tell a Friend
By Solomon Amabo in Douala
Monday, 17 November 2008
Eden 326The Douala Judicial Police have opened investigations on a case of alleged murder of a Police Insppector,Herve Mapoure in Douala last Thursday.
The murder is reported to have been committed by the commander of the Wouri Territorial Brigade,Emile Bankoui.
The circumstances of the murder are however leading the police to a dark path particularly to establish whether the crime was one of passion or an act of sheer murder in self defence. Herve Mapour ,who works with the Douala International Airport is alleged to have been found in the home of Commander Emile Bankoui with his wife

The Drama
On that Thursday night at about 10:30 pm, it is said that the senior Gendarme officer returned to his residence after a busy night tracking down bandits to have some rest. According to a first version of the story, Commander of the Wouri Territorial Brigade Emile Bamkoui was surprised not to meet his wife on their matrimonial bed. As he searched for her, he dashed into the stranger’s room where he met her with the deceased police inspector making love. Other sources say he met them on his matrimonial bed.

Commander Bamkoui is alleged to have immediately called for reinforcement form elements of the Mbopi Gendarmerie brigade. Reports say as the police inspector tried to escape, he (the inspector) seized a bottle and badly wounded the Commander on his skull. Commander Bamkoui is said to have fired several bullets at the police inspector in self defence. The victim died minutes later after reaching the Lacantinie Hospital .

Controversy
Sources close to the commander told local radios in Douala that Bankoui had long suspected the inspector whom his wife had always presented as a colleague. It is even said that Commander Bamkoui was suspecting inspector Herve Mapoure of dating his wife during his almost a year stay in the Gendarmerie School in Yaoundé.

Family Dismiss Claims Ofdultery
Meanwhile family members to the deceased have dismissed all allegations leading to the death of their relative. A sister to the deceased inspector, Marthe Laure Ndifon told a local radio in Douala that Herve Mapoure had visisted Cammander Bankoui’s residence to collect a bottle of whisky from his wife. She claims that since they were colleagues he bought the bottle of whisky and asked her to take it to her home pending collection.

She added that her brother before dieing disclosed that he was not caught making love and that he was simply arrested, manhandled before being shot and inflicted bullet wounds. Mme Laure Ndifon added that they have also ordered an autopsy. None of them could however explain why the deceased had to go for his ‘parcel’ at that time of the night.

Meanwhile Commander Emile Bamkoui is reported to be receiving treatment on wounds inflicted on him by his alleged rival. Judicial police officials have opened up investigations. Commander Bankoui’s wife is said to have been questioned. Talks are also rife that last Thursday’s incident would strain relationship between police and gendarme officers in the economic capital.
