Supporters of Zaccheus Forjindam, former GM of the Cameroon Industrial and Shipyard Company, attempted to frustrate President Biya’s anniversary celebration in Santa on Thursday, 6 November 2008. The supporters, who are militants of the Meforbe Subsection quickly, rallied in front of the grand stand shortly after a motion of support to Biya was read. Their temper only subsided when the Brigade Commander of the gendarmerie in Santa appealed to them to take their seats.
The militants demanded to know from the Section President why since the arrest of Forjindam, no mention had ever been made of his name. To make matters worse, their subsection where Forjindam militated had always been left out in all party activities.
One of the enraged militant said no chance is given to them to report activities about their subsection whereas others were given the opportunity. He said even in the absence of their subsection president, Godfrey Nutoto, the WCPDM and the YCPDM Presidents are there to present a speech. He said the Section hierarchy has always refered to them as Santa Center South West, which at the Meforbe village level they are a recognised subsection. The spokesperson said the hierarchy has often accused them of having resigned from the CPDM in protest against the arrest of one of their kin, Zaccheus Forjindam.
John B. Ndeh in an attempt to clear the tensed atmosphere said Godfrey Nutoto, who is the subsection president of the “Santa Center South West” Meforbe when contacted to present a speech on behalf of the Subsection, turned down the request claiming he was in Yaounde.
The Meforbe subsection president, Godfrey Nutoto corroborated one of his militants, saying their right to protest was because they were left out among the speeches that were presented. Nutoto said it was not until about 9:00 pm on the eve of the anniversary celebration that the Section President, John B. Ndeh called to tell him to prepare a speech to welcome the Central Committee, which he told him (Ndeh) that he was in Yaounde.
The subsection president said it was too short a time to prepare any speech, and argued that they had had a planning meeting about six days to the celebration and his subsection was not told to prepare any speech. Nutoto further said the Meforbe militants were also agitating because no mention is ever made to one of theirs detained for alleged embezzlement.
He said it was not his subsection to react against the arrest of Forjindam, rather the militants had expressed their discontent and it was left for the section to make a joint declaration but they have remained silent to the issue. Nutoto said the mention of Forjindam’s name has been like a taboo to the section each time they came together.
The Meforbe subsection president was very frank to say that Forjindam had strengthened and build the section to be what it is. He regretted that the Section does not recognise his work but are rather making a mockery of him.
Meanwhile, from the plethora of speeches beginning from the Rev. Pastor Asanji’s prayer cum speech, down to the Section President, John Begheni Ndeh, they were all full of praises and the achievements of President Paul Biya. To the host subsection president, Mr. Fru Jonathan, he highlighted some virtues of Biya focusing on peace and social cohesion.
While John B. Ndeh called on the militants to be more united than ever so as to fight political intruders. Ndeh reminded Mr. Biya of their call for him to stand as their candidate for the next presidential elections, promising him the unalloyed support of the Santa people. J.B. Ndeh used the celebration to introduce Mr. Kan Elroy Moses Payne, North West Treasurer General who has also gained the confidence of the CPDM hierarchy and appointed chargé de mission in Santa.
